The President of the Iran Chamber of Cooperatives met with the ambassador of Afghanistan in order to develop the trade cooperation between both countries.
At the meeting, the president of Iran Chamber of Cooperatives described the position of cooperative sector in the Iranian economy and said : “The cooperative sector is defined by law as one of the three main pillars of the country’s economy alongside the public and private sectors.
He said:” the cooperative sector has a serious presence in all sectors of the country and there are more than 14 million as cooperative members .
He continued : “Due to the proximity of Iran and Afghanistan and common borders of both countries, utilizing the capacities of the cooperative sector can be an effective step in order to develop trade cooperation between them.”
Following the meeting, the ambassador of Afghanistan pointed to the presence of Afghan Chamber of Guilds and stated : “We had a cooperative sector in the field of agriculture in Afghanistan and this major entity was hit by recession during the war, but recently the government has created Afghan Chamber of Guilds with a little difference in the nature of its duty.”
He said : ” This entity has created a balance in favor of depreciation in public and private economic competition. Given that Iran has extensive experiences, we are trying to work together in different fields.”
He suggested the establishment, strengthening and support of Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber and said: “All economic relations can be managed through a legal umbrella under the jurisdiction of the Iran-Afghanistan Joint Chamber and regulated the trade affairs of both countries.”
The ambassador of Afghanistan stated:” holding exhibitions and introducing Afghan products can present this country’s potential in agriculture sector.”
He invited to invest on agriculture and livestock sectors in his country, acknowledging: :”Due to the countries’ neighborhood and also the import of Iranian meat, this region offers Iran a proper opportunity to reduce meat imports from other countries and uses the talents of this country.”
The president of Iran Chamber of Cooperatives stated in another part of the meeting: “due to the common issues, the gap of using capacities between two parties is perceptible. These capacities must be recognized and this is considered the first step.”
He described about the second step and stated : “Organizing responsible groups in both countries is the next step. Holding joint exhibitions , hosting and dispatching business delegations can also help in this matter.”
